Led by Joaquín Sorolla’s quintessential Boys on the Beach, painted in 1908 in Valencia, our sale of European Paintings features a rich range of works from the nineteenth century onwards, presented by region or school.

Other highlights include a monumental work by the Tyrolean Albin Egger-Lienz; an elegant pastel by Federico Zandomeneghi; Spanish works by Julio Romero de Torres, Santiago Rusiñol, and Joaquín  Mir; a portrait by Eilif Peterssen of his wife at the seaside and a fine group of Norwegian Romantic landscapes by Johan Christian Dahl, Peder Balke, and Thomas Fearnley; Dutch works by Petrus van Schendel, Willem Koekkoek and Hendrik Willem Mesdag; and a selection of important Greek works by Theodoros Ralli, Nicos Hadjikiriakos-Ghika, and Yiannis Moralis, among others.
