Please let me know the name of your specialist in France for Pre-columbian art. He works for Sotheby's, your answer will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much,

Thank you for this helpful article. I want to refinish my antique (ca. 1910?) electric floor lamp, but of course I cannot submerge it in liquid. The lamp is about 4 feet tall, with two bulbs in a brass fixture. The metal shade is textured cast iron, as is the pole. The base and counterbalance, however, are pewter (not magnetic). The entire lamp was painted a hideous beige color at some point, and stenciled very faintly in brown. I would like to refinish the entire lamp to bare metal, but it is heavily coated with this old (unattractive) paint. The pewter counterbalance, which terminates in a very graceful spiral, is in fairly good condition, but the pewter base has pewter disease. I have never refinished anything, but I would like to restore this lovely old lamp, that has survived for nearly a century. It has a non-functioning cord right now--from the 1940s. Someone treasured it, rewired it, painted it. I would like to restore the surface first, then rewire it, but I'm not sure about how to repair the surfaces. I rescue the BEST antiques from thrift stores, for ridiculously low prices (this lamp cost $4). I want to restore them to their glory!

Antiques.com can offer you a few options - first, you could go to Antiques.com, click on Magazine, then on Community Appraisals on the menu along the right side of the page. In Community Appraisals you can list your item and get feedback about your item. However, if you are looking for a professional appraisal for the purpose of selling and/or insuring the piece, you can go the Antiques.com, click on Find and then on the drop down menu choose Antique Appraisal - this will give you a list of over 900 appraisers that specialize in antiques. You can find an appraiser in your area by entering your zip code.
Good Luck!
