This autumn Sotheby’s is pleased to announce an evening sale of Arts of the Islamic World, taking place on 4 October. Comprising 44 lots, the sale features an exceptional selection of ceramics from the Harvey B. Plotnick Collection. Assembled over the past 20 years, the collection focuses principally on the cultures of Persia and Mesopotamia, as well as the trade routes between the Mediterranean and Central Asia.

Our next auction will be on Saturday, October 1st at 10 am at 2895 Irvin Lane, Sugar Grove VA. 24375. This is in Smyth County. The Auction includes antiques collected over several years. Many of them have been in the family for years and this will be the first time they are offered for sell to the public.

Some of the items include a large collection of depression glass (60 – 80 pieces), oak wash stand with dove nail drawers, oak dressers with swivel mirrors, steamer trunks, crocks, baskets, porcalin slop jars, apple boxes, oak chairs, bent wood chair, etc…

Sotheby’s Auction of the prestigious Fabius Frères Collection will take place on the 26th and 27th of October, and will include amongst other highlights, marbles by Carpeaux and bronzes by Barye.

One of the most exciting events in the auction calendar since 1999, the sale of 20th Century Italian Art presents a strong selection of works by artists ranging from Marino Marini and Gino Severini to Alberto Burri and Lucio Fontana.

Examples of Modernism include a group of superlative works from a distinguished private New York collection.

Testament to the collector’s passion for Italian art is the superb Marini bronze Cavaliere which was a gift from Eric Estorick and the important Severini Natura morta con arance of 1917 which documents the artist’s foray into Cubism and demonstrates his experiments with sand, colour and flattened form.

The sale also includes Severini’s Train arrivant à Paris, one of the most important works on paper by the artist to come to the market in decades, the work is closely related to the painting of the same subject in the Tate Gallery; whilst Morandi is represented by a tranquil still life which celebrates nuance and stillness.
